System restore problem

I got a dell inspiron 6000 three months ago and later on it became starting slowly. I had tried many ways to improve but nothing helped. Not knowing that I could use the Ctr+f11 method to restore the system to its factory setting, I restored my whole system by using a "windows XP Professional version 2002" installation disk that came with my package. So I formatted the C Drive to install a new system but during the installin process, I was asked for a "Windows XP Prfofessional CD2" which did not appear in my package. Therefore, I had to skipped this part and the windows was still installed, though not sucessfully. I tried to update my system in microsoft website and install my office tools, neither of them worked. Specifically, I have many problems installing new tools.

I am wondering, under this circumstance, is it possible for me to restore my system back to when I just received it from dell anymore? If not, what can I do to make this whole thing work because I really really need to use those tools. I am getting extremely frustrated with it and please help!!

Using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.

If the Symantec PC Restore utility won't work, but still resides on your computer, a Dell customer has figured out some ways to get it to work again. Note - If you removed this partition, it is not recoverable, cannot be downloaded from the internet, and cannot be shipped from Dell. Click here for ways to fix Symantec PC Restore. Users have also reported that the partition can be restored with Ghost 2003, and Ghost 9 using the '03 capabilities of it. If you boot to the Ghost 9 CD, select Advanced Recovery Taks, select Utilities, then Restore Legacy IMage it should work - but you want to verify the image before attempting the restore. It's in a folder called IMG.

First of all, this is the Dimension forum and your question should be posted in the Inspiron forum.

A Dell forum contributor has put together a site called Inside the Dell PC Restore Partition for helping people do just what you want to do, fix the restore partition so you can use PC Restore.

Look at the site and if you have more questions, I suggest you post in the Inspiron forum.

Dear rickmktg:

I think that you can help me to solve the problem with the Dimension 3000 PC.

When my Windows Media Player 10 started working incorrectly, I restarted my computer and got the next message,” …The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ialmrnt5… The device driver got stuck in an infiniteloop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with device driver programming.”

I used recommended Dell Diagnostic tool for Dimension 3000 and learned that my computer passed Video Hardware Test and did not PASS video memory test, Text Mode character test, and Record, and Playback test.

When I disabled Intel 82865G Graphics Controller, I was able to use the computer in Normal mode with big disadvantages-low screen resolution.

I tried to solve the problem in many recommended ways, but did not get positive result. Now I tried to use Dell PC restore by Symantec.

On the end of the restoration I got a message,” The system is not fully installed. Please Run Setup again. OK” I clicked “OK” and got the previous message, “…The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ialmrnt5…”

I turned off the computer and tried to start PC Restore again, but it was impossible. Computer tried to start in Safe mode, but it did not start.

Please let me know what is the problem that PC Restore does not work. Is it possible to make it workable in my case and how to do it?

There is my general question: Is it possible to solve my problem by reinstalling Windows XP Home Edition?

Thank you in advance for your response and help.

Sincerely,
Peter
