Wondows restart problems

I had faced up with this problem since few months ago. When I working with my PC; suddenly the windows will restart. If said out of free space, guarantee not, it still have 16.2GB out of 40GB. If said I open or run too many programmes in once time, sure I didn’t do like that. It seem like the CPU usage suddenly run too high, then programmes hanging at there and finally lead to windows restart.

One more things also relate to windows restart problem. Normally I work with PC with plug in AC adapter only. So, my battery still keeps well and performs healthy till now. The problem that trouble me is when I plug in battery without using AC current, my PC windows will direct restart at BIOS; sometime it can enter windows, but still restart then. I had reformat this before, however, the same problem still appear.

I am short of ideas to solve these two problems. Who ever faced such problem please share the detail problem and solution with me. Your kindness is much appreciated. Thanks.

Shook Ling,

What is the make and model of your computer and operating system? 32-bit or 64-bit? SP1 or SP2?

Shook Ling,

All I know is you have a computer(Desktop, laptop, model number) that has a 32-bit operating system with SP2 installed. Vista, XP or some other type operating system?

Restart your computer and tap F8 on startup. Try repair my computer. You can choose a system restore point from there and see if you can get it working.

Dear Rick,

Sorry again, just came back from field. For your information, mine one is laptop (model inspiron 640M). It is XP home edition, 32-bit OS and SP2 installed.

I had tried with system restore point this before and it can't be work.

May i know whether you have any ideas for the windows restart problem when i plug in battery (without AC adapter plug in)?

Sorry if i have misunderstood with your questions.

Shook Ling,

I was also away and had to read everything, again. Since you have XP, I first suggest you scan for malware. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, update it and do a quick scan. Remove everything it finds. Nice to let me know if it does find something. I would then try an operating system repair.

Insert the operating system disk and restart the computer.

Press any key to boot from CD.

Choose install.

Do the agreement.

Now choose repair. Leave the operating system disk in until you see the Welcome Screen. Takes about 35 minutes. You'll then have to get all the Windows Updates, again(more painful). Your system only, should be the only thing effected on a Dell computer. I always preach to always make copies of files and folders that you cannot afford to lose.

See if this correct your problem.
