XPS420 Remote Control Receiver Problems

I just purchased an XPS420 with Windows Vista Media Center to replace my Windows XP Media Center pc.  Everything is working fine except for the remote control.  The remote control does not work very well.  Multiple button presses are required to get one to be recognised no matter where I stand in relation to the receiver.  For example, I have to hit the channel up button 5 or 6 times before the channel goes up one channel.  I do not have these problems when I replaced the newer receiver with the receiver from my old media center.  Is there any software update required for the newer receiver?  Is the hardware bad?
