Single-cable docking not possible with WD25TB5 and U4924DW KVM?

I am seeking assistance with what appears to be an interoperability issue between a Dell Thunderbolt dock and a Dell monitor with integrated KVM.

Hardware

• Dell Pro Thunderbolt 5 Dock (WD25TB5)
• Dell UltraSharp U4924DW monitor
• Dell WB7022 UltraSharp Webcam
• Dell KM5221W Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
• Dell Pro 14 laptop
• Dell Pro 14 Premium laptop

All firmware and drivers are fully up to date.

Objective

I have two Dell laptops connected to the U4924DW and want to use the monitor's integrated KVM to switch the keyboard, mouse and webcam between them.

Configuration

Laptop 1

• Connected to the WD25TB5 using the supplied Thunderbolt cable.
• WD25TB5 connected to the U4924DW via DisplayPort.

Laptop 2

• Connected directly to the U4924DW via USB-C.

The KM5221W receiver and WB7022 webcam are connected to the monitor's USB ports.

Issue

Video switching works correctly.

The keyboard and mouse switch correctly between both laptops.

However, the WB7022 webcam does not switch correctly when the monitor's USB upstream connection is provided via the WD25TB5. The webcam repeatedly disconnects and reconnects, with the status LEDs flashing red and white.

Troubleshooting performed

• Updated firmware on the WD25TB5.
• Updated firmware on the U4924DW.
• Confirmed all Windows drivers are current.
• Tested multiple DisplayPort and HDMI connections.
• Tested different USB ports on the monitor.
• Confirmed the WB7022 operates correctly when connected directly to the dock.
• Confirmed the webcam operates correctly when the monitor's USB upstream connection is connected directly to Laptop 1 instead of the WD25TB5.
• Tested a Thunderbolt/USB-C connection between the WD25TB5 and the U4924DW in place of DisplayPort (not successful).

Key finding

The system only functions correctly when the monitor's USB upstream connection is connected directly to Laptop 1 using a separate USB cable.

In this configuration:

• Video works.
• Keyboard and mouse switch correctly.
• WB7022 switches correctly.
• KVM functions as expected.

However, this requires Laptop 1 to have two connections:

• Thunderbolt cable to the WD25TB5.
• Separate USB cable directly to the monitor.

This largely defeats the purpose of the dock, as it is no longer providing a true single-cable docking experience.

Question

Is this a known limitation or compatibility issue between the WD25TB5, the U4924DW KVM implementation and the WB7022 webcam?

If not, is there a supported configuration that allows:

• Laptop 1 to connect using a single Thunderbolt connection to the WD25TB5,
• Laptop 2 to connect directly to the U4924DW,
• and the monitor's integrated KVM to reliably switch the keyboard, mouse and WB7022 webcam between both laptops?
