Moderator Points

The possibility of moderators being able to award points possibly. Some individuals either do not understand how to award points or do not understand it fosters activity. Possibly having the ability for a moderator to award (Nothing huge, 6 points) to questions answered to promote this or at the least signify some reconcile has come from the post regarding the question.

I can see your point of view. Best case scenerio would be an extra (effort) almost catagory, hey even less then helpfull at that for mods, that shows some progress has been made. In all, it's a small item compared to something as bad as the :) being inserted into code, moving threads,etc....

I'm not sure if I'd want the mods rewarding points on my threads..... they may think its useful to them, but it may not address my problem specifically......

...its a good idea if the user is satisfied with the answer to a question but forgets to distribute points

Just my $0.03 B-) BTW, try topping my distribution of points.... not sure though if that's something to be proud of

I just want to stress that I'm in no way pushing for more points, I just think that activity is highly based upon score status as well as correct questions answered. If you look at my distribution of points, it's very well known that I ask and receive alot of good advise. For this to continue I feel that some moderation beyond the original question asker has to be in order. But this is small on the list in mosts opinion. Just thought I'd throw it out in the open though :). Thanks

Rajan,
If you started a post as a question (which in most of your threads you did) in the far right corner of the answer post you should see some links, like Award Correct, Helpfull, Reply, etc... If you found that answer to be helpfull award that. You can do this twice, if you found that post to be the answer to your question award correct. Pretty simple. You can always see how many points are available to distribute from the begining of each thread.

mghans,srahman et al..

I think ability to send private messages would immensly help..In which case you can ask postee to award point without having to beg for it in the open or even tutoring him again and again and again.

But there is an associated drawback..some users may post questions as private messages which may never get published..So, ability to respond to messages must be disabled.

Someone actually asked for this feature sometime back..

ranand, I agree that some answers may not be published and that really is what I'm pusing for. The points are not as big a picture as closure of the question. I know when I browse the forums, I always review any questions that are answered for future reference (proactive). But then again, as was pointed out I wouldn't want points just being awarded for any answer. I wish users could tag a post for moderation (such as if a % of tags on a thread some closure is decided, almost like a force shut with option of making active like expert-exchange.

I personally feel freezing a month old post will be good.. forcing users to post a new question instead of dusting out a old post and saying "i have same problem..please let me know how to fix"

It is always good if someone makes sure to award points for correct answer.
