Powerlink - Performance, Bugs, Crashes, etc etc
When are you guys going to sort this all out. You've replaced a functional, efficient Documentum support site with one that is absurdly slow, crashes on the server and the client (complete browser lock-ups), and returns amusing search results. Today's "fun" issue is that clicking on a link in the search results does not open a fresh window, and so viewing the actual search result is near impossible. It's been close to two months now, and as far as I can see things actually appear to be getting worse! In response to your forthcoming questions, yes my browser is up to date, yes my internet connection is functioning, I'm getting the same results on three different setups at three different locations.
Please fix this.

I am not having any problems with VMWare, mainly because I am not using VMWare.

You can search for your VMWare problems even using Google in much much better way.

Or using forum's search

This has been driving me nuts for weeks now, I saw the Mass. location and leapt to the, obviously, wrong conclusions.
Thanks for correcting me, and more importantly, adding your comments.

Thanks,

if the clicked search results aren't appearing (they are supposed to open in a new window), it may be due to a pop-up blocker. Are you still seeing this behavior today? And I hate to ask, but what browser /version are you using, and do you have a tool bar installed (Yahoo! or Google)?
I'm sorry to hear your experience with the site is not improving - we have made numerous changes to improve the search performance and accuracy (have you seen the Search Tips document http://forums.emc.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=44 ?) and have others in the pipeline.
Please keep us aware of your experiences - it helps us prioritize changes within our development schedule.
Thanks,
Erich

Sorry I could not respond earlier, Powerlink would not let me log in yesterday afternoon!
I know how the search results are supposed to appear (pop-up), that fact that they "magically" stopped working last week is what prompted my message to this forum.
I don't have a pop-up blocker installed.
I don't have any additional toobars installed.
I get the "best" results on Powerlink with Internet Explorer 6.0, most of the time.
Today it is working, from all of my client locations, it still takes 15 to 20 seconds to return a search result, but that's normal, right?
I do think that it's odd to have a search function that uses an implicit OR between terms when popular convention is to use an implicit AND.
No if I could only stop Internet Explorer from hanging completely every 10 or so searches, I'd be a lot happier. (this happens from multiple locations)
Thanks.

convention is to use an implicit AND.
I second that, but it also seems to me that it's checking for those results where on top it will put those hits where all search parameters have been found (however I can't confirm that, I simply seem to remember being that way). I guess such approach is the best one to get related results in case of typo in search pattern or to get as closest you can get. To get it as you type it simply use quotes.

I'm really sorry about that - I'll find out if there were any other reported issues with logging in.

I'm glad it's working today, but I cannot (yet) explain the odd behavior you were seeing.
15-20 seconds is "normal", but we are still working on improving it.

I'll be happy when you're happy too. I hope everyone understands that we are doing everything we can to improve the search experience in terms of results, performance and reliability.
