After hitting f 12 after booting I had an entry called uefi boot and under that it has windows boot manager. I highlighted that and pressed enter and it started up like normal.

Are you sure the new CPU is compatible? What CPU did you install?
These CPUs are listed in the specs as compatible with the Inspiron 3847:
• Intel Dual Core i3 (4th Generation)
• Intel Quad Core i5 (4th Generation)
• Intel Quad Core i7 (4th Generation)
This PC has the Intel H81 chipset so the new CPU has to be compatible with this chipset.
Assuming you installed a compatible CPU, did you apply a thin coat of decent thermal paste to top of CPU before attaching the heat sink? If not, the CPU would rapidly overheat and that could cause the fan to run on "high" and prevent it from booting.

Yes I checked the specs and I have one of the haswell .listed. I had an i3 4150 and am now tying to get the i7 4770 going.I had a problem with the heat sink so I installed the cpu incorrectly and clamped it down. It bent a bunch of pins so Iordered a new motherboard. I hope I have the right chipset.

The i7-4770 is compatible with the H81 chipset.
Bent pins = OUCH!
But is a new motherboard going to help? Are you going to be able to straighten the pins on the new CPU?
Is this PC worth the upgrade since it's a 4th Gen CPU and current new systems have 10th Gen CPUs.
BTW: Do you have the latest version of BIOS installed? Dell sometimes adds new/better support for CPUs along the way. The latest version is A11. You would want to install BIOS with the old CPU installed, before upgrading to the new one. And make sure to clean old thermal paste off bottom of heat sink and apply a thin, fresh coat to top of new CPU before attaching the heat sink.

Since the bolt on one of the cpu screws wouldn’t come out so I muscled the cpu heatsink out of the way to change them.I had it positioned incorrectly and latched it down. The mo her board is coming from a totally different pc.I only have a i3 and the 4770.I was hoping to just install the 4770 and see if it works. And the cpu looks fine the pins are actually on the motherboard. And yes it’s worth it for now until the madness of pc parts settles down. The cpu pins are basically flat.

Yes it was a combination of impatience and the broken part that holds the cpu bolt to the back of the motherboard had me changing the cpu with 1 cpu bolt still attached. It didn’t turn out well. The motherboard was only 50 bux. Thanks for the bios tip.

Please read the Service Manual carefully so you don't mess up again.
If i7 doesn't work, then what? Pull i7 out, reinstall i3, update BIOS, especially since you're getting a board with who-knows-what version of BIOS is on it, and then reinstall the i7?
BTW: Unless you know the battery is fresh on the new board, you probably should install a new one before you update BIOS...

If my 4770 shows up in my bios do I need to update my bios? Also when I turn on the pc it says to reboot and have a bootable device.I put it in my 537s and all I get is a blinking cursor. Is th hard drive dead?

If that CPU shows up in BIOS, then it's being correctly identified. So that's ok. But if there are newer BIOS updates with security patches, etc, you still may want to update to the latest version.
Are you sure the boot drive didn't get disconnected while you were working inside? And is it connected to the right SATA port, which might be blue?
Did you look in BIOS setup to see what's listed first in the Boot sequence. For Win 10, Windows Boot Manager should be first.
Did you try clearing BIOS, now that you upgraded the CPU?
Reboot and start tapping F12 on the Inspiron 3847. When the menu opens select the option to run diagnostics, including extended hard drive tests. Copy error messages, if any.
If you're trying to boot the 537s with the boot drive from the Inspiron 3847, that's unlikely going to work. So that tells you nothing.

I did the thorough test on the hard drive and after almost 2 hours it passed. I have been trying other connections and the cables and It still won't find the drive. It is set to windows boot manager as you stated. Ill try to take out the battery and see if that works.Thank you RoHe

Yes the hard drive cable was blue. I tested the connections with a hard drive that has Linux mint and it showed the Linux mint logo then it gives a scrambled video output. Should I enable secure boot mode.?I also did a thorough test through the f12 button and all tests pass so I think my motherboard and cpu are ok.I am simply out of ideas except turning on secure boot mode. And yes I’ve been testing everything.Im thinking my hard drive is ok? This is frustrating.
