I'll also add that I didn't trash my BIOS to my Thanksgiving gratitude list!

UPDATE: It's the HDMI plug that's the culprit; the USB printer is okay left plugged in.

But the question remains, is there some A13 BIOS setting, or tweak, that will allow me to leave the HDMI plugged in?

If you leave hdmi port connected to monitor, can you boot into Windows properly?

”get the A13 BIOS setup & boot menus to finally load”, this seems to mean you want to enter bios to choose which device to boot from.  If you have already successfully installed Windows, you do not routinely need to access bios or boot menu, do you?

@JoeChill  Is the monitor connected to the onboard HDMI port or to an add-in video card, if you have an add-in video card?

The monitor should be connected to the add-in video card, not to the onboard HDMI port. And you should power the monitor on first, before you power the PC on.

And like @redxps630,  I also don't understand why you want to open BIOS setup so often. What are we missing?

To clarify in response, I have Linux only, no Windows.

If I leave the HDMI port connected to a monitor, I cannot boot at all.

Aside from the normal need to boot, I need access to the boot menu as I'm about to install a second Linux partition, such that I can plug in a bootable USB to do so.

Sorry about the crossed postings. HEH.

RoHe, it appears that you are correct in that the HDMI was incorrectly plugged into the onboard HDMI, not by add-in video card. And, yes, it's not so much an issue if the monitor is turned on first.

Actually the HDMI monitor was a secondary monitor that I rarely use (It's an old big Sony flat screen TV, not the regular PC monitor on my desk that I always use). As such, it was really a luxury that I seldom use.

So this really turns out to be a non-issue. I'll just leave that HDMI unplugged.

I'm thankful that the BIOS upgrade to A13 really DID go down without a hitch. A few hours ago I was biting my nails that I didn't trash the BIOS in the upgrade process.

This forum was invaluable, and I thank everyone for their replies.
