Are you talking about the Windows password or the BIOS password? If you cannot even get to the Windows log in screen then it would be BIOS password and the only way to access the system is to call Dell tech support. And after confirming you are the owner they will assist you in gaining access to the system.

Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.
If this is Win 10, F8 doesn't work...
And if you have to do a factory reset, you will lose everything on the PC, so I hope your files are backed up on external media.
Maybe your grandkid knows what the new password is...?
