Can't install Win 10 Pro

XPS 8940

XPS 8940

I have the Inspiron 3668. I viewed one Youtube video on how to install Win 10. It gave a choice of either creating an account or to create one's own personal login. The Win 10 Pro on DVD does not give this option. Instead, it forces me to create an account, but when I do it then forces me to create a 'Child' account. I do not have any children, none in the house, ever, but yet it wants me to create a 'Child' account. I know Win 10 is not very intelligent, and of course neither am I, but even though it is not an AI it seems nonsensical to force me to create a 'Child' account when there are no children. How do I get around this? I could create a false child account but I'll bet there would be something else down the line associated with this in installing Win 10 that will be a problem.

JOcean,

The issue is resolved. I just now decided to create a false child birthdates and to my surprise when I launched the desktop, went through the procedure to get to the place of creating an account, it said I already have an account (based on my email address). The screen to create a child account never came up as I completed the installation.  It is not something I failed to do last night because when it got hung up on not being able to bypass having to create a child account I could not go back to a previous screen and so I had to power down by pressing the power button. I had done this a number of times to try different things. I think what happened is that as a result of my message to the microsoft help last night, they went in and resolved the issue of a child account and created my (adult) account. I now have the Win 10 desktop on the monitor.

It may be that your MS account has the wrong birthdate. This MS forum has information on how to change the account from child to adult.

Thank you for your response. After I sent it I realized this is the wrong forum. The only reason I did was because I had some discussion on this forum regarding drivers for Win 7. It was recommended I install Win 10 instead of 7. The 3668 (I bought about six years ago) came with Win 10 and so I decided to get another hard drive (I still want to keep what I had done with UBUNTU on the other drive) and install Win 10.

I do not think it is a problem with the account having me coded as a child because on my Dell Desktop (that I am using to send this reply) that has Win 10 on it, I could never create a microsoft account when I got the desktop a couple years ago. Hence, I do not have an account. I tried microsoft online help (one cannot talk to a real person anymore) about not being able to create an account but that was a fiasco. Because I don't have a microsoft account I could not download (as was recommended in this forum) Win 10 and so I bought the DVD version of Win 10 pro from ebay.

I put in a question about having to create a child account on the microsoft internet help last night but have not received a response yet, if I ever get one.
