Dell Inspiron 3880 boot sequence and UEFI

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 3880.  I would like to be able to boot from USB or CDROM but I can't and when I looked closer at the Bios I don't see any options for it.  I also placed a circle in the area which I had seen previously on other Dells Uefi options.  Can someone please advise how I can add my USB and CDROM for the Dell Inspiron 3880?  I have contacted support today and was transferred three times and in my opinion is very weak technical support as they have no knowledge what bios is and they want to dismiss me right away, very frustrating...

Also just for grins... i created another bootable usb using rufus to boot freeDos and tested that on another older Dell laptop...  works perfectly.

Then i went back to the 3880 and chose the usb boot option i created and no luck.

Thanks, @RoHe  for the suggestions.  I went ahead and made PPT=uncheck, SMS=uncheck.  But i could not find any PPI settings.  Where are those?

I did make those updates and when i choose the boot option i created, still no luck.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

I saw PPI listed as an option in Table 6 in the Inspiron 3880 Service Manual. I don't have an Inspiron 3880, so can't confirm that this option actually exists.

For more 's, go to the MS site and follow their instructions to create a bootable USB with Win 10 on it, which doesn't use Rufus, and see if that boots PC from the F12 menu...

@RoHe , thanks for all of the suggestions.  After a bunch of time with Dell, it seems that this bios will just now allow legacy boot mode and therefore, for my application, it's a no starter.  i'll be returning this item.  I do have a number of inspiron 3670's deployed and these units have legacy boot mode in their BIOS, so i'll be looking for a used one on ebay that I can use as my Sophos UTM firewall.  Thanks again for everyone's help!

I had the same issue. I spent 2.45 hours on the phone with Dell support and I was told the this model does not support booting from USB. Support was also not able to figure out why this computer didn't recognize a brand new WD 500GB SSD drive.

I ended up returning the computer and ordered an HP instead.

Very disappointing!!

Just as an FYI, I just got a Inspiron 3880 yesterday with bios 1.3.1 and was going crazy trying to figure out how to configure the bios to boot my Macrium CD.  The answer is you don't have to.  If there is bootable media in either a USB connection or the CD/DVD drive they will be listed as options on the F12 one-time boot menu, no pre-configuration required.  I do have secure boot turned off right now so I don't know if that makes a difference.

@rschmetzer  Yes, that's the correct way to do it, and it shouldn't matter if Secure Boot is enabled or or not.

Keep in mind if Microsoft sticks to their recent statements about Win 11, you'll have to enable Secure Boot before you can update to Win 11 when it's released later this year...

I know this sounds silly, but have you tried inserting your USB drive in the bottom right slot?  I replaced my nvme m.2 with a new one and tried to reinstall a fresh install on Win 10 only to have the same issues you have. I also did try to change a few bios settings until I started looking at each option I read under System configuration - front usb configuration, it say that if the usb port is enabled the device attached to this port is enabled and available for OS.  So I checked my usb drive and saw it was 3.1, moved it to the bottom right usb port, rebooted and guess what… it booted on my USB drive.
