Dimension E521, Windows 7
Found my old desktop from early 2000s. im trying to upgrade it,but I'm having problems and need advise. After finding my Dimension E521, I decided to switch the power supply first after this I downloaded windows 10 to my usb flash drive and proceeded to install windows. It black screened and listed various issues (see picture).i hit f2 to the set up options and attempted to boot windows from my portable devise after saving and exiting it reloads the black screen listing the issues again and again .. is it possible I can fix the issue? and at what cost$? Needing any good advise possible thank you!

Why :TongueTied:
That would be a Pentium-4 with Windows-XP (32bit).
Even if machine was working 100% hardware-wise ... I doubt enough Windows-7 drivers exist to make it work (even 32bit ones).

I can see the (moderated) pic now. Yes, it appears to have a bad CMOS battery (or a bad motherboard).

Dells do not Display Phoenix Award Bios.
That system is not supported here.
A dimension 5150/E510 (DM051) is from 2005
In 2005, the System Setup program on certain Dell Dimension, Inspiron and XPS computers was changed to display a model code instead of the computer model name.

And after you replace the dead motherboard battery, reboot and immediately press F2 to open BIOS setup.
Look for the option to disable the internal floppy drive, since you don't have one, and then make sure the boot hard drive is first in the boot sequence. Save the changes before exiting BIOS setup.
It also appears the last shutdown was due to overheating ("thermal event"), so it's possible either the CPU fan isn't working and/or the thermal paste between the CPU and heat sink is dried out and needs to be replaced.
EDIT: And set the correct date/time while you're in BIOS setup too.

I have an old Dimension E521 that I'm trying to find a cmos battery for. Are there compatible models that I can get one from?

Any compatible one would have been discharged completely by now. You can obtain new battery at general merchandise stores for a quid or two. It uses 3v CR2032 lithium coin cell.
