Importing photos from a memory card and having error message come up "Something went wrong"
Hello,
When I try to import photos from a memory card that is in its slot on my PC I keep getting an error message "Something went wrong your photos might not have been imported". This happens more times than not and it takes me forever to import my photos when I have to start all over and the error message comes up most of the time. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I have a Dell Inspiron 3471 with an Inspiron Core i5 processor. I am using Microsoft Pictures app which came with the Dell PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Don't Import-- copy the files instead. Import is for files in a program. You can drag or right click and drag to choose options.

Does this happen with all your SD cards or just one (a few) of them?
How are you selecting "Import"? You should be able go to Settings>Devices>AutoPlay in Win 10, and set the default option for Memory Cards to "Import photos and videos". So it should import your photos automatically as soon as Win 10 detects the SD card in the slot.
What file format are these files? Something typical for an image file (eg, .jpg, .png, .raw, etc) or is this an unusual file format? Have you opened "Choose default apps by file type" in Win 10 and made sure this file type is associated with the right photo/image app?
Are these files copy-protected on the SD card so they can't be imported?

Exactly what PC model is this?
What version of Windows?
What CPU?
How much RAM in this system?
Is it possible the files are just so big that it just can't handle so many all at once? Suppose you just import ~10 at a time, repeatedly?

Hello,
This happens with all SD cards. I am able to import some photos but the error message comes up more times than not. I might select 18 photos to import and it might import 4 or 5 photos and then it stops and error message comes up. Takes forever to import say 150 photos. I shoot in JPG. As soon as Windows detects the SD card it will bring Pictures and then show what images are on the card. I then have to click on whatever images I want to import and then hit import. Thank you for helping with this.

Hello RoHe,
Thank you for responding. I have an Inspiron 3471 with Windows 10 Home. The CPU is the Intel Core i5-9400 @ 2.90ghz.
8GB Memory and 1TB HDD. I shoot in JPG so I am thinking the files aren't very big compared to RAW files. I have tried many times
to import less pictures say 12 instead of 36 but it will import maybe 2 or 3 and then it will stop and the all to familiar "something went wrong" would
appear. Any help would be appreciated. I tried calling Microsoft to get some help but the computer voice said that all support is online now and I couldn't
talk to anyone. I pay a lot of money for my PC and made Microsoft even richer but they provide a product.

Seems like this is a Win 10 issue...
Check out the 2 posts marked as Answers and this thread too, to see if any of those suggestions work for you.
And I'd also add that maybe you should reformat one of your SD cards on the PC (everything will be erased!) and then see what happens after the next time you use that card in your camera.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I am going to try and talk to Microsoft Support for my problem since it is their software that isn't working.
