Inspiron 24-5490 AIO, how to use HDMI in as a monitor
Hi,
I had a new Inspiron 24-5490 AIO. There is an HDMI-in port on the back and the manual says, "Connect a gaming console, Blu-ray player, or other HDMI-out enabled devices.". However, when I plug my another laptop into it, my laptop actually can detect 'Digital television Inspiron 549X', but I cannot switch the AIO display from its own windows to the laptop's. So how can I do that? I have tried the OSD button but apparently it is not the solution.
Thanks

@mclemony someone in the community had same issue and figured it out.
I think this one is most likely the driver you would need for OSD.https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=vkfrp&oscode=wt64a&productcode=inspiron-24-5490-aio
Version: 1.0.2.0 ,A02 Last Updated Date: 18 Nov 2019
File Name: Dell-On-Screen-Display-Application_VKFRP_WIN_1.0.2.0_A02_01.EXE
Description: This package contains the application for the Dell On-Screen Display (OSD).

That is not possible. Your all in one cannot be used as a monitor for another computer. See the manual--

See page 9, port 4's description. I do believe this port is for input unless its a fake one.

Based on experience w other Dell AIO, yes definitely it can be used as monitor via hdmi-in port. Right next to the power button at bottom edge of monitor there is a small button called BIST (build in self test) When you press it it may show video input select source on screen, which allows you to choose external video in. see #2 BIST HTH.

Yeah I tried that BIST as well, it will only make the display go dark if I hold it for 2 seconds, but seems no selection for switching display.

I believe it is not the laptop's settings.

With the HDMI cable inserted into the AIO, have you tried Fn+F8 on the laptop to cycle through all the 4 choices.

If your laptop is not set to send the video out the HDMI port, how is the AIO suppose to get it ? ? ?

I have done the settings already on anther tv, my laptop does send the output signal through its HDMI port.
It's the AIO I don't know how to make it as a monitor.

Display built-in self test
Try this to see if the test shows anything related to video input select source.
The following procedure provides the instructions on how to run the built-in self test for the display:
Steps
1. Turn off your computer.
2. Press and hold the display built-in self test button.
3. Press and hold the power button.
4. Release the power button.
5. Hold the display built-in self test button until the test starts.

some user successful to display hdmi-in video on it. he just did not say how he did it. must be very simple.
I then installed an Inspiron 5490 AIO with the camera HDMI video connected to the computer's HDMI-IN port. The camera video displays beautifully on the monitor after switching the display video source to the HDMI-IN port.

The laptop can send video signal out the HDMI port, but does it ? I know on my laptop, I have to Fn+F8 to do so.
