Inspiron 660, Windows 10 update, loses internet connectivity

Our office has two Inspiron 660 computers.  After a Windows update some time back, I encountered an issue with one of them where the machine updated to the most recent (at the time) version of Windows 10.  It maintained network connectivity, but was unable to connect to the internet.  This occurred regardless of if it was connected over WIFI or directly connected via network cable.  After making the usual checks, I rolled back to the previous version of Windows 10 and that fixed the issue.

The other 660 had the exact same issue a week later.  I immediately rolled back to the previous version of Windows 10 and that again fixed the issue.

My hope was that whatever issue was causing it would eventually be corrected in a later update so I kept those two machines from updating to the next release.

Over the weekend, I let one of the machines update, and once again the issue has presented itself just as before:  Internet connectivity is gone, but network connectivity is ok.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the network adapter using the most recent driver from Dell, and that did not fix the issue.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue or have any ideas to correct the issue?  I've rolled that computer back once more.

The version of Windows 10 it is currently running that works is 1803, Build 17134.1069

There are 2 versions after the one you have, 1809 and 1903. And version 1909 is due out any day now. As for problems like you have experienced.I had my system off for a couple of days while we were doing a reno in the PC room. I turned it back on and let it get an update and bingo, connected to my router fine and to my wireless printers fine but would not connect to the Internet. I tried other Wifi adapters with no luck. I tried new drivers, and uninstalled and reinstalled the cards with no luck. Finally I restored  to a backup image I had from a week or so ago. Like magic the Net came back without an issue. So something in the update was not happy with my Wifi setup.

It may be Winsock Hijack drive by install messing with the network stack and possibly DNS.  Realtek Network Adapters are part of the issue because malware has hijacked the certificates for Realtek drivers.  Microsoft has cancelled those certificates.

I have many clients that swear on the bible that they do not have malware and yet if we do a clean install on a clean drive all of the hardware works fine for all versions of windows 10.

the chicken and the egg , or as said below the malware issue.

first off how can the driver get updated with no connection?(to the www)

why not just get the driver from dell. (using PC #2 that does work)>>> to a USB thumb stick.

then install it, and then when working,  turn off driver updates from MS, in the Windows update.

Get Ethernet cable/jack working first, far more easy, (just plugs in and works no wifi issues, to fight)

good luck living in daily update,  how can you be productive?

Both computers do use Realtek network adapters.  Guess I'll just do clean installs on both of these to the newest Win10 release and see how that goes.

1.  I downloaded the driver onto my Android phone, and connected to the afflicted computer via USB cable.  I then copied the driver file to the computer.  As I stated, I work in an office.  I have 10 workstations, numerous laptops, and two servers, more than enough working machines to download an update onto...

2.  The driver update isn't correcting the issue.  The updated driver came directly from Dell.  I tried today using a driver direct from Realtek.  No change.

3.  As I stated in my original post, this issue affects the computer regardless of if it's connected over WIFI or LAN.  Also, it only affects internet connectivity.  Local area connections are fine.
