KB216 wired keyboard, key combinations

Hello,

I have received new KB216 keyboard. Very good for office and quite while typing. However, when I tried to play some FPS games, I have figured out that the CTRL+SPACE+W key combination does not make any response.

I have tested other combinations using AquaKey test and found out that CTRL+SPACE+"any letter key" works just fine except W. Can it be an issue of my keyboard or is it a standard behavior of this series?

It is a pitty that only the CTR+SPACE+W does not work, which is the most used combination while playing FPS games.

Best regards,

Jan

You might want to contact the seller, if nobody has a specific answer for you.

I have a different keyboard and Ctrl+Space+W closes the current window in Win 10.

One more thingy... Try turning Sticky Keys on (Settings>Keyboard). Then press/release each of those 3 keys (ctrl-space-w) one at a time, in quick sequence and see if that works.

1. Gaming-class Keyboards have more (hardware) scan-lines allowing more complicated concurrent key-combinations.

2. Really? Since when ? Well, whatever ... I suggest you try re-mapping your keys or get a gaming-keyboard.

1. Yes, of course. I have bought this one as most of the time I am typing, but sometimes I just want to relax with some FPS.

2. I am sorry, I have made a mistake. The key combination I am focused on is SHIFT+SPACE+W (sprint+forward+jump) not CTRL.

This seems to work. Even the SHIFT+SPACE+W works with the Sticky Keys on.

Below I upload the screenshot of the AquaKey Test. The dark grey keys are the pressed and held down. Then I pressed all others keys in a sequence and the yellow are those that made any response. The right WIN key is not present on the keyboard. You see that all, even those on numpad, made a response except the right SHIFT and the W, which is what seems to me weird.

The W letter works just fine as well as combinations CTRL+W and SPACE+W and SHIFT+W of course.

So Shift+Space+W does what you want when sticky keys are enabled.

You can set up a shortcut to turn that on/off on the screen where you enabled them, if that's helpful.

Please mark this thread "Answered" - thanks.

Thank you for your points. However, since the only one letter does not work in this combination, my original question was:

Can it be an issue of my keyboard or is it a standard behavior of this series?

Anyway, I will contact distributor and let you know if it was a problem only with my keyboard.

OK, good luck. Hope they replace it with one that works the way you expect...

Hi, you've described exactly the same problem I have. Only discovered it yesterday when playing an FPS game on an XPS 8930 PC that I received a few days back.

The KB216 keyboard works fine for 2-key combos, just not 3. Luckily, I had a 12-yr old Apple USB keyboard handy to use as a test. I found that it worked fine, and I was able to clear the level without issue. The keystroke was W-LEFTSHIFT-SPACE for a sprint jump move.

Hopefully Dell Support can resolve this peculiar problem!

Good news, Dell Support sent me a replacement keyboard (manufactured Oct 2019) which resolved the problem.
My faulty keyboard was made in Nov 2019 so it may have been from a bad batch. It took some persuading, but it was indeed a functional defect.

Hope you can get it resolved like me - good luck.
