Mobo bricked

Question

Is there anybody use Dell Inspiron motherboard got bricked  and replaced the BIOS chip and that worked? What are the cons of replacing the bios chip?

Motherboards are multi-layer boards. In many cases just using standard soldering iron will damage board getting the chip removed and if not, soldering a new one in a multi-layer board can be an issue without specialized soldering station. I guess its worth a chance doing it, if the board is damaged by unsoldering or resoldering you haven't lost anything as the motherboard will have to be replaced anyway.

Not worth the cost of labor. You can get a used Optiplex easily.

Have you read Dell's Policy on BIOS update failures?

It's Dell Inspiron 620s. 2011 model.  Presently 2gb ddr3. Intel i3 processor. Windows 7home basic.

i had a dell all in one. (had).

Dell's maintenance app informed me of an "urgent bios update".

I installed it and it instantly bricked my PC. No power, no lights, no nothing.

I called them to inform them that i was one of the lucky ones that clicked their bios update and now have a bricked motherboard (bios chip).

They charged me £39 and told me that my motherboard was faulty and a replacement was £670. They also informed me that the replacement motherboard was a refurbished!

Here is a comment i left on Fstoppers (link at the bottom);

Dell offered me a replacement motherboard for the low low cost of £670. (keep in mind that i purchased this PC from dell for £701). After speaking to the tech i found out that the replacement part was a refurbished motherboard! I argued the fact that "refurbished" more or less means "used", and telling me that a reasonable cost for a used motherboard is £670 is an insult to my intelligence.

The tech explained that its not used but they can not sell it as "new", because it is "dell refurbished".<---used! I am done with dell. I feel that they should have backed me up to some extent. Or cut me some kind of break on cost. Instead they sent me back a broken PC and still charged me £39 for my troubles.

I am done with dell and will tell everyone single person i know about this disgraceful customer service.
