New G5 Desktop. Hard Drive is beeping
Hi,
My new ( received it today) desktop is making a sound. I'm pretty sure it's from the hard drive because it maintly happens only when I open a app.
Here is a audio sample of what I'm taking about ( One Drive link)

Thanks

Contact Dell Tech Support. Let them figure this out.
Could be a fan, power supply or just possibly something vibrating...

All I hear is a hum...
Is the sound coming from your speakers or directly from inside the PC case?
Suggest you contact Dell Tech Support asap. Have your Service Tag available.

Sounds like a speaker hum to me. Detach the speakers to check for sound before you call. Maybe speaker or something else is not hooked up correctly. Reseat everything.

Hi @RoHe the sound is straight from the tower. Maybe it's not the harddrive ( ssd)

Hi @Mary G there is no speaker connected yet. I really don't know what that is. All I know, it's not normal. : /
Thanks for your help.

I hear the chirp. My G5 also does the same thing. I think it's just the design of these particular hard drives (It seems every generation of spinner sounds different from the one before it). I wouldn't worry about it. It sounds exactly like mine when I come out of standby.

@SenecalJ - Didn't you say this PC has an SSD? Or do you have both an SSD and a HDD? What size and model number SSD and/or HDD do you have? If you don't know, open Device Manager and expand the Disk Drives entry.
@J1mmyD33 - Do you have an SSD and/or HDD? And what size(s) and model(s) number do you have?
Post the info here and let's see if there's a common theme which might help understand what's going on...

Yes, mine has SSD/HDD combo. The HDD is 1TB but I'm not at the computer right now to verify the model. I know it is a western digital but that's it. I'm sorry, I assumed OP had an HDD as that sound is exactly what my G5 makes on wake from sleep when it spins back up. When they get back to the thread I will edit my comment if need be ☺️

Thats not a beep its the click of death. Aka mechanical head servo re calibrating as it hits the stop it chirps or clicks. If it does it constantly click click click click its basically dead.
If you don't like it get an SSD and reinstall.
