Vostro 430

I have a 2010 Dell Inspiron 580s with an i3 530. I'm selling it to a friend with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. He asked me to launch Minecraft on it and show him how it runs. I can't run a newer version of the game it has to be 1.16.5 because I have outdated OpenGL drivers. The chipset is H57. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this? Is it possible to only fix to this is to get a new GPU for the system?

The CPU and IGPU do not meet the minimum system requirements for Minecraft. The CPU might work but the IGPU does not. The Minimum is for Intel HD 4000 which came  after the i3 HD Graphics. A GPU may work but remember that you want to run the game on a 13 year old system. Generally the GPU manufacturers drivers include Open GL support. All this is assuming you only have IGPU on the system and not a discrete card. If however you do have a discrete card then go to that manufacturer's site for the up to date drivers.

Plus this forum thread may help, noting especially the reply on that thread by @ejn63 .

Yeah, I figured the IGPU wouldn't support that. I appreciate your quick response to my message. It doesn't have a deticated GPU and I should probably add one. I'm looking at a LP AMD Radeon RX 550 since the case is a SFF case.  (https://www.amazon.com/PowerColor-Radeon-550-Profile-Graphics/dp/B09V2GYKPJ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=AMHDV2FWA8AS&keywords=powercolor+amd+radeon+rx+550&qid=1678811920&sprefix=PwoerColor+AMD%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-3

Do you know the max CPU I can upgrade too without changing the motherboard? I'm on a tight budget.

I did go to Intel's web site and of course all the drivers are outdated.

This forum thread should help with the CPU question.
