What model computer and how old? The motherboard limits any cpu upgrade to a cpu close to what you already have and is rarely worth it. Very small return of your investment. Use it as is. Remember you must be running Windows 10 now that Window 7 is not supported by MS and Windows 8 will also be unsupported completely in a couple of years. It already has limited support,

its a dell inspiron 660 that we’ve bought second hand to use as a server (possible you install 3x hdd by sata connection)
only a low spec pentium processor in, was running windows8, not sure how out that would make it., upgraded to ssd drive and to windows 10.

Model Inspiron 660
Processor • Intel Core i3 (2nd and 3rd Generation)
• Intel Core i5 (2nd and 3rd Generation)
• Intel Pentium
• Intel Celeron
cpu socket is LGA 1155
System chipset Intel B75 Express Chipset this is a business class ivy bridge chipset
I suggest you upgrade to i5 ivy bridge (3rd gen) and do not consider i3.
a good choice would be i5-3470 or i5-3570. others include i5-3330, 3340, 3450, 3550. no need to get -k cpu because overclock is not supported by chipset and bios.
