Rear mic socket
Inspiron 3670
I cannot find any reference, certainly not in the user manual, and I've searched the web, to how the rear mic socket is wired.
Is it Tip and Sleeve, TRS or TRRS?
The same question applies to the front headphone socket. Using a splitter cable ( speaker/mic), is the mic socket going to be Tip and Sleeve, TRS or TRRS?
thanks

Rear audio port has line-in. It is TRS.
Front audio port is headset (headphone and microphone combo). it is TRRS.

Thanks for that. Do I assume from this that the rear plug could be balanced, is it tip-mic and sleeve and ring earth?

PC mic jacks are mono. The Tip is audio, Ring 5VDC (needed for PC condenser mics) and Sleeve is ground.
Regular PA type mics do not work or work well. The XLR balanced Low Z connection would need conversion to an unbalanced signal (some D.I. boxes will do this) but signal level is low and another problem.
