replace keyboard in keyboard/mouse combo

The keyboard in a KM713 wireless keyboard/mouse combo went bad and we bought a new KM713 keyboard but not a keyboard/mouse combination.  When the new dongle (aka usb receiver) is plugged in the new keyboard is recognized but not the mouse.  If both dongles, old and new, are plugged in, both keyboards and the mouse works.  However, the numeric keypad on the new keyboard only works after a user is logged in.  I.e., at the windows login screen, the numeric keypad doesn't work, but after the user logs in and starts typing then the numeric keyboard works.  Two questions!

Is there a way to configure the new dongle to recognize and support the old mouse, so that two dongles don't have to be plugged in?

Any ideas on the numeric keypad on the new keyboard not working until after a user is logged in to windows?

Thanks much for any pointers!

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Here's an old post that says you need to use the correct part for each. Consider buying a new combo set with all the latest updates instead of trying to keep the old model.

Don't forget to replace the batteries whenever wireless accessories fail.

And always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts...
