@shipman2 - Could something have been pressing down on the keyboard when you walked away? Or maybe a bum keyboard with a stuck key...?
I have in the past left a "to do" on top of the keyboard when leaving my desk. Came back and tried to wake the PC...beeps. A key was apparently being held down and that overflowed the keyboard buffer...
My Inspiron i5 has started acting similarly. When it goes to sleep, a certain % of the time when it is woken by mouse/keyboard activity, I hear it 'rev' up and awaken but the screen stays blank. Nothing seems to work; turning monitor on/off or any key combos. I have to basically reboot the system. At no other times do I lose the monitor, only on sleep wake up. It is as if the graphics system stays asleep....
Exactly which Inspiron do you have? "i5" is not the model number.
Are you also hearing beeps when it won't wake up? If not, you probably have a different issue.
Do you have an add-in video card (exactly which one?) or only have onboard Intel Graphics? If you have add-in video card, the monitor has to be connected to that card, not to any onboard video port.
What type video port (HDMI, DP, etc) are you using on PC on and what type port on monitor?
Exactly which Inspiron do you have? "i5" is not the model number. Aspiron 3891 which is an 11th Gen, i5-11400 with 12 GB Ram.

Problem is relatively infrequent, but would appear to becoming more frequent. All drivers are kept current.
Sounds like the monitor doesn't have an HDMI port. If the monitor has a VGA port, try using a direct connection to the VGA port on the PC. If VGA>VGA doesn't have this problem when waking from sleep, the HDMI>DVI connection could be part of the problem. There are many different types of DVI port, so are you sure your adapter cable has the right DVI connector for the monitor?
Could be a Power plan setting, so with monitor connected HDMI(PC)>DVI(monitor) try this:
Open the Windows Power & Sleep screen. Click Additional Power Settings. On next screen identify the active Power plan and click Change Plan Settings. On next screen, click Change Advanced Power Settings.
On that last screen, disable Hibernation, Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend, and PCI Express Link State Management. Save the changes to the Power plan and reboot. Does that help?
Sounds like the monitor doesn't have an HDMI port. Correct. If the monitor has a VGA port, try using a direct connection to the VGA port on the PC. If VGA>VGA doesn't have this problem when waking from sleep, the HDMI>DVI connection could be part of the problem. I'll have to see if I still have one! There are many different types of DVI port, so are you sure your adapter cable has the right DVI connector for the monitor? Never had this issue in past using this monitor and cable with an HP laptop. Like I said, it is intermittent now, but obviously not normal.

Finding those settings was like pulling teeth! Microsoft! How intuitive is is to use a control panel app instead of the settings gear? None of those feature show up with the settings gear......Win 11. I've made the adjustments you suggest above and we'll see if they have any effect.
My monitor btw is a Samsung SyncMaster. Has been a solid performer for years.

Hard to tell what happened and whether software or hardware error. If it happens again then be concerned.

@Spittybug - If not beeping, you have a different issue.
Sure you have the latest Intel UHD Graphics driver installed?
