Ac adapter

Hello, I have a Dell G15 5515 laptop that came with a 180-watt AC adapter. I keep getting an error message when I open it saying that an 80-watt AC adapter is detected and that performance will be adjusted accordingly.

So, I'm having constant performance issues. The BIOS is updated via Dell support. The battery charges fine despite the message, but performance is severely affected.

I tried using a 240-watt AC adapter that isn't an official Dell one. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Do you have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem?

Thanks!

The most likely cause is a DC jack that's not making good contact.  This would be the first thing to replace.

You’re right — a faulty DC jack can definitely cause the system to misread the adapter wattage and limit performance. I’ve seen similar cases where replacing the jack fixed the issue immediately. If you go that route, make sure you use a compatible part for the G15 5515 and have it installed properly. Also, try to stick with an official Dell adapter afterward to avoid further compatibility issues.
