Just got a G5 SE 5505....dont like the ted keys in the dark....if I cant change the color to white by using the keyboard, can I physically change the light, or do I have to return it?

The backlight cannot be changed by software -- it would need to be physically replaced.  This is not practical on a brand new system -- you can't change just the keyboard, but rather must change the entire upper assembly (keyboard, palmrest, which in turn requires a complete system tear down.

Welcome to the Dell Community @jackinback

Also included in this system

240 Watt AC Adapter
US backlit Keyboard- Red Print
Black Palmrest with Iridescent Flake DELL logo without Finger Print Reader
Supernova Silver Cover with mDP and with USB-C

That's odd that there is not an option to order a "White" backlit keyboard???

Red backlit keyboards are more for the military "Navy".

The human eye is less sensitive to longer wavelengths, so red light is chosen to preserve the night vision of the crew while still allowing them to still see their instrument panels.

Submarines switch to red light when it’s dark outside and crew members need to use the periscope or go on watch duty.

I new a few "Bubble-Heads" when I worked for the DOD.

Best regards,

This model comes either with a red backlight or a color-adjustable RGB backlight depending on the model (at least from the US Dell listing).
