Today's batteries don't last as long as previous models. 18 to 24 months of service is common now. However--if you don't want to replace the battery or cannot find a replacement from Dell, the dead battery can be removed and the adapter used alone. It makes the laptop a desktop replacement so laptop must be shutdown completely before the the adapter is unplugged from power. Replacement batteries don't last long on the shelf either, so might be hard to find. Do not buy from anyone else but Dell and Dell Parts or Parts People. Lots of scams with batteries from Marketplace sellers online. Read-- https://www.dell.com/support/article/en-us/sln128667/dell-laptop-battery-frequently-asked-questions?lang=en

You did not say which model you have--Many diff models in the 5000 series.

1. Press WIN+X or right-click the start menu, and then open the control panel; 2. Click the "System and Security" option; 3. Then click on the "Security and Maintenance" option; 4. Click the "Change Windows smartscreen filter settings" option on the left; 5. Set the smartscreen filter to "do nothing" (turn off the Windows smartscreen filter) and confirm to save the settings;

I have the same problem.

The PC is the same, barely 3yrs coming this xmas.
Batteries should be lasting longer than this.

I have been a Dell customer since 1999. The older models had batteries that lasted much longer and you could just swap the battery right out of the bay. But Dell migrated away from this and went with integrated batteries which means you have to open the up the pc possibly voiding any warranty's.
