Cmos battery reset

hi

i have a dell inspiron 5559, i had a problem with my ac charger being unrecognized. I wanted to turn off this warning so i can work on my computer even if the battery wasn't charging, just to remove the warning. But my laptop had an administrator password, i don't know who set it, so i wanted to reset the bios to remove the password, to disable the warning. I removed the cmos battery from my laptop and waited a couple of mins and i put it back. Now when ever i try to turn on my laptop it won't turn on the screen is black, only the fans start running much faster, before when my laptop was working fine i didnt even hear the fans running. How can i fix this?

Also my battery is dead, but i think i have a problem with the AC wire. Before i would just move the wire abit and the battery indicator would turn white, and my laptop worked perfectly fine. But now when i removed the cmos battery it won't even turn on.

I tried to place the cmos battery after one hour and it's still not working. I noticed the laptop would turn on on it's own ( only the fans) as soon as i placed the battery and the ac charger. and the battery indicator would go white and orange repeatedly.

Thank you.

I think I already answered this in the MS forum. Replace the cmos battery with a new one. It's available anywhere regular batteries are sold for $1. Those batteries can last for about 5 years or more. Removing it might have speeded up the end. Make sure to replace it correctly.

You don't remove any battery to replace the password. That old tech from years ago. You have to change your password in your account. You set it up when you activated windows and tied it to your MS Account. You are the Administrator. It's how you sign into the laptop so you do know it. Changing it could mess everything up . Get some one to help you.

I suspect your computer is experiencing a faulty DC jack. One of the symptoms of a faulty DC Jack is the laptop loses power or regain power upon movement of power plug. If the DC jack isn't replace then eventually you'll be unable to power on computer.

Another thing to consider is the ID pin in the AC adapter. A damage ID pin will not power on the computer. Try another adapter to see if it will make a difference.

Note: If you reseat coin cell battery again, you might as well replace it with a new one. A new coin cell battery will cost you about  $1.00 - $5.00, and you can get at your local dollar store or Walmart.

Welcome to the Dell Community @kareenka

It does sound like you have a faulty DC jack.

A damaged/missing "PIN" should not stop the laptop from booting.

It would come up with the unrecognized AC adapter error at boot.

Try this.

Hold down the "D" key, push the power button, release the power button, wait 2-3 seconds and release the "D" key

The laptop should go through an LCD test of solid White, Red, Green, Blue and Black 2 or 3 times.

After completion it should try to automatically boot 2 or 3 times.

Post your results.

Best regards,

U2
