Dell G3 15 screen gets distorted and makes a single squeeck noise
I have been facing a weird issue with my Dell G3 15
- my screen would suddenly distort and the laptop will make a loud white noise
- this happens unexpectedly usually when I pick my laptop from desk. But sometimes happens without moving laptop.
- all keys and buttons are non responsive except the power button
- i need to long press the power button to switch off my laptop. That is the only solution
please see the above picture for reference. I would appreciate someone from Dell looking at this issue

Hi @zarakkhan026 welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
You want someone from Dell to look into this screen issue. If your system has a current Dell warranty, use your online Dell account to get Dell Support to create a Service Request for you, so that Dell knows that there is a problem to fix.
You can also click on @DELL-Cares to send Private Message requesting their assistance.
If this noise and screen distortion happens when moving the lid, its probably a loose screen connection/cable.
Please click on Kudos to say thank you for response from user that is not employed by Dell. Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

Your Dell laptop may be experiencing display or video issue usually caused by either the LCD panel, video card or video settings. Some symptoms that indicate an LCD display or video issue are a blank or black screen, color fade, fuzzy, blurry, distorted, stretched, geometric distortion, light leakage or bleeding, flickering, horizontal or vertical lines, light or dark patches, dead pixel or bright pixel or touchscreen related issues.
Most Dell laptops has a built-in hardware diagnostic test that you can try to know if it's a hardware or software issue.
The troubleshooting steps below can help resolve common issues. Kindly try it starting from the first troubleshooting provided so we can better isolate the issue:

hey, so apparently this is related to a hardware thing? I have the same problem, like moving it, and also I have tried to press hard on the keyboard and it glitches, I'll try few things but for now can you try the same thing like put it on a desk and press hard on the keyboard?

I eventually took my device to a repair shop, paid money to them, and the problem still occurred. I wouldn't recommend taking that step, as it seems there are no resources online to fix this issue, so they won't help too much. However, my problem was resolved by taking apart the computer and removing a memory stick that I perceived to be dead. I had a notion this was an issue because my computer would occasionally flash 4 amber lights and two white lights from the charging light, an indication of memory failure (see link for reference).

To check this further, you should open BIOS setup on startup (spam F12 when DELL screen flashes), scroll down to the memory section and note the status of DIMM_SLOT 1 and DIMM_SLOT 2. Provided you have dual memory sticks like I did, both of those should be visible. If you have two sticks but one slot says that it is empty, that means that particular stick is probably dead. In that case, you will have to open up the computer and take out that particular stick, there are numerous resources online to demonstrate how to do this. Provided this was the issue, your computer should run smoothly, just with half the memory. You could get the stick replaced, but so far I have not and have not seen any significant performance drops. Good luck and I hope this helped, it took me two months to fix this and I hope it takes less for you!
