I am having the same issue, my hinge came apart and screws fell out and my screen is damaged beyond use.  All the nuts that the tiny hinge screws screw into broke out of the plastic and now I have an expensive paper weight.  Have only had the laptop since April.  Did Dell do anything to help fix this issue for you?

Welcome to the Dell Community @Devid22

If not recommending Dell because of faulty hinges, then you would have to not recommend any manufacture of laptops because they all use the same design. " Except maybe Apple and Panasonic "

The use of " Knurled " brass nuts pressed into plastic holes is a very poor/old design.

This is an HP.

Hopefully they will improve the design in the future.

Product has defect . It happens. I' OK with it . The attitude of dell is very disappointing. I bought it from Bestbuy.

Its warranty is one year. At Dell website, Its warranty is less than 90 days. What I can say?

Hi, are you talking about Dell G3 3500 or Dell G3 3590?

  • Same issue happened with me

I bought Dell g3 3500 in August and now within 6-7 months of normal use the hinge get open.i got the onsite service for it but the technician came with refurbished parts with signs of wear and tear so I said no to technician and after some conversation with Dell they said that's the company guidelines, I haven't received any guidelines when I bought the laptop, now I am not able to do any work from last 20-25 days.

i am very disappointed with the service.

I can tell you that this is still an issue as of today, purchased in October 2020. I keep my laptop stationary for work and only open and close it on the desk. The hinge broke yesterday and it is outside the scope of warranty because it is "damage." Technical support says it is not an existing issue for the model. Disappointing product.

i bought Dell g315 3500 in nov 2020, and I found it's hinge broke in Dec 2021. In almost one year it broke. And they said it's not design issue because they have not received such complaints. But I can see there are lot of complaints all over the internet. What scam they are running

This seems to be a really common problem. My DELL G3 15 3590 hinge broke recently in exactly the same way as a huge number of others. The laptop was 20 months old. The screen had been closed very few times because of working from home during Covid and not having to move it. Under UK consumer law products must last a reasonable time and 20 months for an £800 laptop is not a reasonable lifetime. So I have contacted  Currys my UK retailer who have primary responsibility under UK law and made a "non-warranty claim" . I am sure they are aware of this issue and hopefully have pressed DELL for an upgraded rear-panel. There do seem to be panels with three screws per hinge bracket against the original two. I don't know if Dell make these?.

So don't give up folks. Go to your retailer first and say that they should repair the laptop or refund you.
