Dell Power Manager Settings Not Working After Battery Change
Hello All,
I recently purchased a new Dell OEM battery, manufacturer Samsung SDI, and installed it in my Inspiron 5593. I used to use Dell Power Manager to set thresholds for my battery charging (ex. start charging below 50% and stop at 80%) with no issues with my old battery. After installing the new battery, this feature has stopped working.
Both Dell Power Manager and the system BIOS recognize the battery as a Dell OEM battery, and both let me select a charging range. However, the settings don't work and when I restart the computer the setting is always cleared back to default. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Dell Power Manager several times, uninstalling and reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager multiple times, as well as ensuring all drivers are up to date. I have also reinstalled the most recent BIOS version for my computer and set the BIOS defaults to both BIOS Default and Factory Default.
None of these solutions has fixed my issue - is there anything else I can do? Dell Support remoted in and couldn't solve the issue and I am hesitant to ship my computer away for 7-10 days as I require it for work. It seems as though the BIOS recognizes the battery but won't save any custom charge settings - is this new battery just not equipped for this? Any suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated, as I am trying to prolong the battery's life as much as possible.
Thanks!

You remove battery, press and hold the Power On button of your computer for about 30 seconds to drain the residual power ? If yes, the Dell Power Manager Lite application still doesn't detect Battery Settings ?

Hi. I have exact the same problem. My new battery manufacturer is Samsung SDI as yours.
I set Dell Battery Manager Lite to Custom or Primarily AC Usage but it still keeps charging to full. It also returns back to Standard mode each time I restart my laptop. I also can't find any option in BIOS to custom the battery charging behavior.
Did you find any way to resolve it?

Hi, unfortunately I did not resolve this issue. Seems to me like a shortcoming of the Power Manager software - support was finally asking me to reinstall Windows 10 and I did not want to go through this as I was not optimistic it would resolve the issue.
I have the setting on "Standard" and leave my PC plugged in basically all the time. Once the battery is full, the PC switches off the battery and to AC power. Looks to be the best option since the custom settings won't work.
Please let me know if you find a fix.

@cwheats Dell needs to fix this. I had two batteries swell and one a month after choosing 'primary AC power'. Honestly you should open up a BBB case or something because this is not ok. Their software is not functioning as it should and it is costing us.
I got a new Dell OEM battery just yesterday and put it in. This time I hoped to change the settings for the battery health. But I am having this same issue.

The same for me, I've replaced 3 batteries for 4 years, and can't save next one! Where is a care about planet?
Do we need to call Greenpeace? - to solve that problem

I also have the same issue (but in my case I haven't change the battery . my laptop is only 4 months old). I have for a while set the charging mode to adaptive and then after a week when I am setting the threshold value it's not working .

I just unplugged and plugged the battery after doing some maintenance work on my XPS 13 9300 and since then I can't set any limit to my battery charge, it just ignores my Dell Power Manager configuration.

FYI, according to this thread some have had success with a workaround changing to use Peak Shift on a 7-Day schedule, in case that will help anyone. Won't be universal, but seemed to meet what I needed:
