Dell Studio 1749 Subwoofer issue
I have a Dell Studio 1749 and (I think) it came with a bad subwoofer. Im assuming its bad because it keeps thumping loudly (even on 50 volume) and crackling. So i got another one from Ebay (used) and the seller said it was tested and worked. I put it in today and still the same issue occurs. Is it just plain bad luck that i just so happen to get another bad one? Or is this an issue with the subwoofer in this particular machine? Im using windows 10 on here. Ive used Peace Equalizer to lower the channel. It "works" but doesn't sound all that good lol. Ive tried the drivers from the Dell website and the issue still persists. Even tried force installing the driver.

If the rest of the audio is OK (no crackling), chances are the speaker is just worn out -- the system is after all, 15 years old and the plastics (and foam) are likely decayed due to age.

@ejn63 So is it possible I just got another bad subwoofer then? The other two front speakers seem to work okay. Guess ill just have to wait for another one to show up on Ebay and hope it works lol.

If that one doesn't work, it's likely all of them have deteriorated due to advanced age. If so, an external sub would be the way to go (or a bluetooth speaker, many of which have excellent bass).
