I believe that, at least for a while, that was the underlying technology for Dell SupportAssist. It can be especially useful on a system that has ProSupport Plus where you get proactive parts dispatches, but even if you don't have that, it's certainly not a "bad" thing to have. Whether you find it useful is up to you, of course, but SupportAssist is a small, non-intrusive application, so you can try it and then uninstall it if you decide you don't need/want it.
