G15 5515 keyboard backlight not working

I have this problem with my G15 5515 laptop, I couldn't turn the backlight on. I tried getting the latest update but it says that there are no AlienFX connected. So whats Happening?

  1. Boot into BIOS setup (F2 before/when Dell logo shows up)
  2. Go to the second tab where you can see keyboard setting, it should say BRIGHT at the moment.
  3. Change it to DISABLE
  4. Go to last page, save changes and exit
  5. Login to Windows, open Alienware Control Center (AWCC).  Go to FX tab.
  6. Change the active theme light setting to something different. (not sure if required)
  7. Press the "Go Dark" soft button on the FX tab under active theme so that the current setting is "GO DARK".
  8. Restart your computer.
  9. Boot into BIOS again.  This time change keyboard back to BRIGHT.
  10. Save changes and exit again.  Keyboard should still be dark (even if you press the "Go Dark/Go Light" function button).
  11. Login to Windows, Open AWCC again. Go to FX Tab
  12. Press "GO DARK" soft button to disable dark mode
  13. Keyboards should light up again, probably under the default RED colour.  Change it under Active Theme to something else of your liking.
  14. The next time it happens again, rinse and repeat while cursing Dell's inability to fix this one simple problem.

I was able to fix this issue twice so far without reinstalling anything.

Hi @Coldestcorn81 welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Support for Dell G15 5515 Ryzen Edition Manuals and Documents includes Alienware Command Center (AWCC) 5.x User's Guide. Dell support and Independent reviews rarely mention the installed AlienFX LED management capability. Does your G15 5515 have the optional RGB keyboard in order to support AlienFX 2.0?

There are three keyboard options for this model:

Basic, non-backlit,

Monochrome backlit,

RGB backlit.

Use the service tag at dell.com/support to look up the configuration of your specific system.

I have the same issue as the OP.

My keyboard is the standard orange backlit keyboard. I get no FX tab in the alienware command software.

The only tabs I have are Library and Fusion(I get the error of no AlienwareFX devices, always have since owning the device). Ive made sure its the latest version as of August 2023. Re-installed windows as well as reset bios to defaults.

When the laptop is first switched on, the keyboard lights up for a few seconds and turns off when windows starts to boot.

@Den87 Had the same issue on my white backlit keyboard (G15 5155 Dell Laptop). I’ve just reinstalled my BIOS. Download BIOS from Dell website for your laptop or computer, then reinstall it. Make sure to try the F5 key for the lights or FN + F5 for the lights.

I have a G15 5155 same problem, shut it down last night tunred it on this morning and no keyboard lights. :(
System restore didnt help. Disabling the lights in bios had no effect either.

My ONLY FIX was to Reinstalled the latest bios and boom as soon as it was done and restarted the lights came on :)

Seems dell still hasnt figured this one out lol

I just started having this issue with my g15 5515 ryzen edition and cant get the keyboard to light up. I reinstalled the bios, reinstalled a older bios, took the laptop apart and unplugged the keyboard and plugged it back in. uninstalled ACC and reinstalled it still nothing.
