G7 15, external screen doesn't work before OS loads

Dell G7 15 7590

Dell G7 15 7590

I'm using a boot manager (grub2) to switch between Windows and linux. When the computer boots and until an OS loads, no output is shown on the external screen. It means that I need to go and open the lid in order to select an option.

Same thing when entering the BIOS, e.g. to set the boot sequence when I'm inserting a pendrive.

On the subject, why do I need to set the boot sequence each time? In previous computers, I would just set USB before SATA, and that's it. Maybe it has something to do with the clunky, limited UFEI that needs to detect a specific boot partition.

Display issues on laptop can originate from the display panel, video card, or video settings. The troubleshooting steps below can help resolve common issues. Some symptoms that indicate a display or video issue are:

A blank or black screen
Color fade
Fuzzy, blurry, distorted, stretched image
Geometric distortion
Light leakage or bleeding

Dead or bright pixels
Touchscreen related issues

Let's start with a sanity check question to verify that you read my post carefully:

Does your laptop output to an external screen post boot (before the OS loads)?
