G7 7500 RTX 2070 Drops Framerate
I have a brand new Dell G7 7500 with a RTX 2070 and I have noticed that when playing games the framerate will drop significantly and the GPU core clock goes to 300MHz. I can use the "G" button to get it back running for a bit before it happens again and again. I searched and looked at many sites for suggestions on how best to stop or limit this, but I appear to be limited in options as my G7 has the 1.2 latest BIOS firmware and undervolting is not an option. I also am not allowed to downgrade any BIOS firmware. Temps do not seem all that high when this happens either (at least what is reported).
What are the best options to stop or limit this while playing games? Here are a couple of screenshots to illustrate what I see when this happens:

I have the same exact issue with my 5 day old G7 7500 with I7 10750H and Rtx 2070 max-Q! Its had this issue since I turned it on in games, any games. I play for about 15 mins then clock speeds drop to 300mhz, usage jumps to 100% and i get 11 to 20 fps. I can regain some fps or normal fps by toggling off and back on the G mode. Sometimes it last a few mins, sometimes it does not last at all. No matter what settings I try in Nvidia settings, game settings or power settings, I still get the same issue. I even tried downloading a different nvidia driver that is more recent then the one it installs in GeForce experience, i downloaded all updates including the new bios update and still getting this issue. This issue Basically makes this NOT a gamimg laptop and more a very expensive facebook and browsing laptop!! Should of gotten a chrome book!

I am currently talking with Dell level 3 support about this issue. Hopefully something can be done to solve this problem and I too have been unable to find anything to help. It may require a hardware replacement of some sort to fix the issue...if not then I have no idea what will work. Let me know if you figure anything out about the issue. It certainly is very frustrating to purchase a gaming specific machine that is unable to play any games.

Keep me posted on what they do or decide to do!
If i find anything ill keep you updated!
So far im trying all kinds of things as it seems like the gpu is going into am idle mode, witch is its base clock.

I ended up not getting called back by level 3 support and I decided to simply call and return the laptop to Dell and purchase a different gaming laptop. This seemed like the best solution based on reviews and reports here of the issue with the G7.

I have an older G7 which I bought about 2 years ago (with 8750H and GTX1060). I have been fighting with these kind of issues for the last 18 months, and no one from Dell ever helped me. I tried couple of ways to get connected with them, however their BEST solution was "trying to repaste the thermal gel". Like, really? If you guys have chance to return it, I would highly recommend it. My CPU's frequency drops to 0.79Ghz (sometimes while it was on idle btw), and I couldn't get any support from Dell. GPU temps never goes above 78C no matter what you do, which causes throttling while gaming. If you don't want to return and give it a shot, do NOT update the BIOS ever. It gets update by update.

I received my new laptop (Alienware m15 R3) and I can already tell you that it is a better experience than the G7 issues I was having. The computer is new and I have not spent extensive time gaming with it yet, but I did run a GPU Stress test via the Dell SupportAssist and was able to make it through the whole test with no issues. The G7 never made it more than about 5 minutes or so before having slowdown and framerate issues.

I just bought this from best buy a few hours ago, got everything updated and ran heaven 4.0. Within 2 to 5 mins it would under clock the gpu to 300 regardless of temp, it only hit 60c. I tried all setting in bios, all the dell settings, and GeForce settings. I have ran heaven 4.0 for a hour now and it stays at 61 c and 90 fps average. To do that I uninstalled everything dell and Alienware, it has something to do with that button on the side and thier horrid software. Why dell would install gar age on the laptop with out fully testing it is way beyond me. I guess they were lazy and this is a generic program for all thier laptops.
With the junk Uninstalled it gets 90 fps average, which is the same fps the Asus laptop with the same specs I just had , got. The single thread test on passmark is 2837 which is also the same as the Asus. So I am quite confident that uninstalling thier junk ware fixes it.
I hope anyways because I dont want to drive 2 hours to take it back haha, and the oled is really nice.

Hello! Thanks for your input on this matter.
So with all dell/Alienware software removed, you are able to keep the gpu in its correct GHz without it going down to its base clock of 300?
Did you just remove the software from the Uninstaller menu of windows?
Also,.did you try any games to see if this issue persisted or only did a benchmark?
I've done Heaven bench mark over and over and was not able to reduplicate the issue im getting in games. In heaven it went without issues.

This will likely be my final follow-up. I can confirm that I have had no issues with my new Alienware m15 R3 after playing multiple hours of no fewer than three different games. I have not seen the issue that the G7 presented once on the new computer and I am completely happy with my decision to return the G7 for the Alienware. I hope that all of you find a valid solution to the problems that you are experiencing as they are very frustrating indeed.

Yep it stayed at 2100 5500 for a hour on the benchmark heaven. I just downloaded darkest dungeon and played for 30 mins and it stayed at the right clock. I am downloading galactic civs 3 now which uses more power than darkest dungeons and see if that stays at the right clock. Gal civs 3 at 4k should require all the gpu and the turns should use all the cpu, I will respond in about a hour if its fine.
I went to add and remove programs and removed anything dell or alineware. I would also think if you downloaded the USB windows 10 installer from Microsoft and download windows 10 there, and format the hard drive putting a fresh install of just windows that would work too.
Really hope it stays working right, because it is way cooler than the Asus I had with the same specs, and the oled is just beautiful.

So I played gal civ 3 for over a hour the graph stayed steady at 5500 ramand the gpu clock went from 1800 to 2000. The fps stayed between 50 and 65. Ehich 50 to 65 fps in gal civs 3 max graphics 4k is good. The temp of the cpu was around 72 and the gpu 68 to 70. So yep that fixed it I believe. It must have to do with that button on the side and what ever software runs it, some how it conflicts and tells the gpu to underclock it self to 300 regardless of temptures.

Once I get home I will have to try this out before they send a tech out to my house.
I will get back here and update my findings. It will be a few days before I get to it.

Want to add in this morning I ran dungeons and dragons max settings for 30 mins and it stayed at the right clocks. So I conclude 100 percent it was the dell software, with that button. I say it is that werid g button because when all that stuff was installed, if I hit that button every 2 seconds the clock would go back up to what it was suppose to be. With i was able to overclock it with msi after burner to 2200 core and 6000memory. Though I only ran haven for that, but it just adds more to the idea that dells software doesn't do this laptop justice.
