How to connect a Dell I5 3535 laptop to multiple extended monitors (NOT duplicate/mirror)?

I recently purchased a Dell laptop with an I5 3535 processor. I would like to connect it to two or three external monitors for extended displays, not duplicate/mirror displays.

When I connect the laptop to one external monitor using an HDMI port and cable, the external monitor shows an extended display. However, when I try to connect a second monitor using a USB-C to HDMI converter or a USB-C to VGA converter, the second monitor does not display anything.

I've read on the Dell Community that even using an HDMI splitter will only duplicate the display on two external monitors. Also, a USB-A to HDMI converter does not work.

The Dell official website states that this laptop only supports one external ;lang=en-us

Is there a way for me to connect this laptop to two or potentially three external monitors for extended displays?

If not, I may need to return this laptop and purchase a different brand that supports multiple external monitors for extended displays without requiring additional devices to solve this issue.

Thank you for your help in advance.

You really do need a different notebook -- and anything in this price class from anyone else will have similar limitations.  It's not the manufacturer that matters, but rather the design of the system.

You really need a system that has a Thunderbolt port (or ports) so that you can use a docking station or native video output over Thunderbolt.  You're not going to find that in a sub-$500 system from anyone.  Look for a more fully featured model.

@ejn63

I am having the exact same issue as the OP. I see your response. I did spend $650 on the laptop, thinking that was "middle" of the line in terms of pricing. In this day and age, I was pretty surprised my Inspiron 3530 wouldn't allow two external monitors?  Ugh. What price range are you suggesting?

@Crawfordthedog

It is disappointing that a laptop that has as much power as the Inspiron 15 Model 3535 does not have the capability of making the extension to two or three monitors. I certainly have to rethink my position. You would think Dell would make this right for us who have purchased their products in good faith.

It's an entry-level notebook that you likely purchased due to its low price.  $500-600 is decidedly entry level for Windows notebooks.  The price dictates the build quality and feature set.

If you're looking for a system that can handle two monitors, add 50% to that -- i.e., the 5000 series.

You once could buy a new car for $15K in the US -- entry level, but it was doable.  Now it's more like $25,000 for an entry level economy car.
