Inspiron 3030 CD drive

I want to purchase a Inspiron small desktop 3030 (cd205104nkm). I note that it has a door for a CD/DVD drive but I can't find one that is compatible in the Dell parts list. The sales department couldn't help me and I can't contact the technical department. Does anyone know how to access the required information please?

The knockout on the front panel fits a standard slim SATA optical drive -- if you must have an internal one, you can call Dell Spare Parts for the required hardware.

It will be much simpler to use a USB external DVD/CD writer.

I would prefer an internal drive, as it's one less device on a lead taking up draw space. Parts couldn't help and the external drive doesn't say it's compatible either. I'm reluctant to order anything without this assurance.

I also would like an internal. I have one from my old Inspiron 5657 that fits the bay, but the door is to big. DELL,, why would you build a PC with a burner bay with a front nock out but no burner that fits it??

I have the same computer, and through online chat with Dell I was told this DVD player/recorder is not in stock at Dell, but might be available elsewhere.  Here's a piece of the transcript from the chat:

Dell Advisor - Anthony: You can check with Dell partners , you can provide this part number PNDVV

I see that impactcomputers.com has them for sale, but I'd be careful that it includes any bezel, bracket, screws and SATA cable that may be necessary.  Please post here if you have success installing their DVD, and I'll give them a try, too.

Just fitted this DVD/Player recorder from Amazon to my new 3030S SFF :

Hitachi-LG GUD1N Internal DVD Drive, Slim 9.5 mm DVD Player/Writer for Laptop/Desktop PC, Windows 10 Compatible, 8x Read/Write Speed - Black                 (new Version) £17.99

It has the bezel fitted but its black, requires a small washer between the cage and the drive to move it out slightly so its flush to the front.

You need to obtain a m2 screw and washer as its not supplied.

I was unable to find the correct drive and bezel from Dell, scoured the internet.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sparky51.  I bought a GUD1N, installed it and it appears to work.  I had to get an M2x3 screw, as suggested, but found that a washer really wasn't necessary, since there's only about a .5 mm difference.  The downloadable Dell manual for this computer has useful assembly instructions in "Hard-drive and optical-drive cage" and "Optical drive (optional)" sections.  You also have to unsnap the cover-plate for the optical drive in the front cover once you remove the front cover, and you have to pull the metal plate out from the front of the optical drive cage to make room for the drive.  Otherwise the manual's instructions are complete.
