Inspiron 3537, SSD problems

Hello.

There is a strange problem with my laptop what I can't solve.

All story. Original laptop came with 500 GB HDD, later I change to 120 GB SSD and works great. Then suddenly one day my laptop won't boot up. Black screen and no blinking cousor or something else. Power and hdd led is light up. There even is no possible to get in BIOS with F2 or F12 boot options just blank screen. Then I think that my laptop motherboard is dead. After some time I take out SSD and try to switch on laptop and it's works. Now begins strange part. When I put in new bought Kingston UV500 120GB SSD it's again not working. Then I put in some HDD and it's works, even I can install fresh Windows to update BIOS to A10, previous was A7. New SSD works in another laptop.

Problem conclusion. Laptop won't boots up with SSD, but when I insert HDD it's boot up and works normaly. Where is a problem?

Please help.

Ok, seems to I solved my problem. I found in my reserves some old Intel series SSD and it works. Now BIOS boot's and laptop works. No errors or bugs.

I am not 100% sure exactly what cause this problem but maybe that Kingston SSD need different voltage or something like that. Possible with some Samsung SSD will work too.

Seriously! Here is a special frame which holds and there is no possibility of any movement or loose contact.

But thank you for trying to help.

Most SSDs are 7 mm in height.  Your system is designed for a 9.5 mm drive - it's very possible the drive is coming loose from the mainboard connector.

Install a spacer to the drive - that should allow it to firmly connect and remain connected.

Example

Just a thought here. Have you checked to make sure Secure Boot is disabled in the BIOS? Also check the SATA setting in the BIOS and be sure that AHCI is selected.

Yes all is checked many times. Secure boot disable and AHCI mode enable.

If the SSD works in another system then you can assume the SSD is ok. If an HDD works in your system then it would appear the power and data cables are ok. And if another SSD does not work in your system then that would seem to confirm the original SSD is ok. I know a lot of assumptions but trying to isolate this. Is it possible that the boot order in the BIOS is wrong? And this one is way off the wall but a post on another forum from a user with the exact problem, that is would boot fine with HDD but not SSD. He removed the CD/DVD drive and it worked. I am not even sure I have ever seen that in 30 years of computing and repair. Kind of grasping at electronic straws here but something out of the ordinary happened here.

I tried as you wrote to remove CD/DVD but no success. and with boot order when I insert HDD is ok. This BIOS is like a simple watch where isn't so much options to change. Yeah this problem is weird.

Hmm...the dvd drive is held in with just one screw and should have pulled out after that screw is removed.

The only other thing I can think of comes from a user that had a similar problem in another post on the forum. It involved removing the CMOS battery (coin-cell) and resetting the BIOS. But that involves opening up the computer and if you are not comfortable doing that then a local computer tech visit would be in order.

Thanks for advises. Remove DVD there wasn't problem and BIOS reset already done. It sees to be no chance to use SSD anymore and need to work with HDD.

Yes, finally fixed the SSD freezing my computer!

I had gone searching for solutions before. I’m  not the only one  with this problem but forum threads were usually:

  • Filled up with replies from people saying, “me too”.
  • A few brave souls asking for log files
  • Suggestions to update firmware and BIOS
  • Solitary pleas for help.

When I flashed windows 10 2004  edition it would work for exact 9 min and then freeze. I have tried the AHCI power linkage management command but it didn't work for me, but I kept on trying by flashing windows 10 more than 15 time the whole night. The process was very frustrating, After a day I tried Windows 7 and it worked without any AHCI power linkage management command. The next thing was upgrading to windows 10 not by USB Flashable pendrive by The update assistant on microsoft website. Now it's working good without any problem......

Hope this treadd might have help You @Judzins @JOcean @ejn63
