Inspiron 3580 Error Code 2000-0145

Good day,

I've gotten an error code when trying to start my laptop. Hard Drive 0 - S/N WXQ1AB8ACV7S, self test did not complete. I get this error every time after Support-Assist Pre-Boot tests the memory and harddrive. It gets stuck on the testing hard drive screen for a few seconds, then it shows the error message.

I've looked on the internet and all I found is the issue is related to the SDD card, but I only have a 1TB HDD.

I should mention I did get a new hard drive installed about 2 months ago after getting the 2000-0142 error.

Thank you

No the error is not specific to SSD

0145 is storage device, test timeout error. It can occur on both HDD and SSD

On SSDs its least likely to happen, due to fast response times, ePSA completes the test on SSD fairly quickly.

Since you are using a third party drive, there is a chance that firmware of the Drive would not Talk to Diagnostics correctly, resulting the test to Freeze or give you a time out error.

Updating hard drive firmware is the first thing you should try ( manufacturer's website)

Second step would be to RESET the BIOS to default.

Please make a note that these tests provide a predictive results are not 100% accurate,

In case the machine is booting fine and you are facing any performance issues, you can disable this SupportAssist pre boot test from

BIOS(F2)  > SupportAssist System resolution.

2000-0145 has to do with a spin test.  Dell actually had a stroke of genius to design a diagnostic that identified issues with HDDs spin-up and test a drive's integrity.  An SSD lacks a motor and may not return an appropriate response for that portion of the test, throwing an immediate error.  It's not a standard for an SSD to respond with a bypass for a test like this, since it is a proprietary test.  Some SSDs may not report this error, while other models will.
