Inspiron 3580, SSD upgrade

Can I set NVMe PCIe SSD to my Dell Inspiron 3580 (Intel Pentium Gold 5405U Processor 2MB Cache, 2.30GHz) laptop? It have M.2 port. I can't by SSD without confirming it.

The system will support one M.2 NVMe drive.

@ejn63 is spot on and the specs here and this page at Crucial would indicate compatibility. What strikes me as curious is that the CPU in your system is not listed as one of the available installed CPUs in the 3580.

The documentation for the system mentions support for M.2 drives, but NVMe -- not SATA.

There are very few systems of recent vintage (this qualifies) that have SATA support -- just about everything has been NVMe-only for the past few years.  Return the drive and purchase an M.2 2280 NVme drive.

The manual for that model makes no mention of SATA support -- just NVMe.

The Inspiron 3580 specs call for an NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD and you purchased a SATA M.2 which is not compatible. Crucial shows a number of compatible M.2 SSD here.

PCIe and NVMe are interchangeable terms where SSDs are concerned.

@ejn63 is spot on. And I am not sure which YouTube videos you saw but this one and this one and this one clearly show NVMe SSD being installed. And don't be confused by the type. NVMe and PCIe are the same.

Gen 2 X2 (I don't think there's an X12) is 1G/s max.

Those specifications are for the memory, not the solid state drive.

Dell lists Class 40 for the SSD -- 1500 M read/350 K write.

This is about half what a standard PCIe 3X4 drive (which is what you will need) will support.

There is no separate manual for the system board, unless you're looking for a schematic diagram -- those may be available.  Try laptop-schematics.com.
