Inspiron 5791 2-in-1 Internal Microphone Not Working
Hi,
I got a new Inspiron 5791 2-in-1 laptop last week and had no problems until I was in a meeting in the Chrome browser and my microphone wasn't working.
I tried to set up the Microphone and Speech/Cortana etc. but the computer can't pick up anything when I speak into it. The microphone fails the speech test. My voice isn't picked up when using the webcam or Voice Recorder application either but I can hear internal noise in the background, like the sound of the mic turning on and off when the recording starts and ends, but still no actual sound. I did a full hardware scan via Dell Suppport and found no issue. The microphone icon still appears in the bottom right of the screen whenever an application/browser is using it, and troubleshooting shows no issues.
I went into Microphone Settings and made sure that Microphone was allowed access for all applications, and made Microphone Array (Intel Smart Sound Technology) my Default recording input in Control Panel and turned it up full volume. I went into Device Manager and updated all the drivers for Microphone Array, Intel Smart Sound Technology and all the Realtek drivers, restarted PC and still no luck.
I presumed it was an issue with either the Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers or Realtek but I can't be sure. My audio output devices (Headphones, Speakers, Realtek) are all working perfectly. So this is just affecting the input/recording.
I plugged a headset with a microphone into the Jack on the right side of the laptop and that microphone works, however ideally I would prefer to use the internal mic.
Any advice on this would be appreciated, thanks!

I have a user who is experiencing the same exact issue. Has there been a resolution to this?

Hello,
After further troubleshooting, a technician came and replaced the microphone/camera part of my laptop and also did a full screen replacement as a result. This then solved the issue.

It seems as though I am having the same issue. I only got my machine today and am really disappointed as I need it for 6 hours of zoom meetings over the weekend. I’ll have to use my headphones with it which isn’t great when the machine boasts fantastic features that I was looking forward to using.

I'm having exactly the same issue with my Latitude 5500. The mic worked when I got the laptop, but a few months later it has just stopped working. I've tried all the things suggested on the forums, but with no effect.

Actually, I got this working again by reinstalling the audio drivers, surprisingly.

I had the same problem but I resolved in following ways: ...
1. Install Dell Support Assistant
2. Check for driver updates and update and install
3. Run for hardware scan, install and update accordingly if missing.
4. Install Max Audio Pro if compatible.
Hope the problem will be resolved.
Thanks
