'Invalid file' bios update in Linux environment
Inspiron 3505
I have Fedora 36 Linux installed in my system and no windows OS installed. To update my bios version from 1.6.0, I followed the below steps:
- Downloaded the bios upgrade file from the website
- Successfully checked the downloaded file via checksum value. The file was fine and unaffected.
- Paste the downloaded file into a USB drive formatted FAT32 earlier via gnome disk.
- I went to the one-time boot menu via standard procedure (plug in USB, plug ac power source, turn on the system from switch off and continuously press f12).
- From there, I selected the .exe file and it showed as an invalid file.
Please I need helpThank You.

You could try resetting current BIOS on this PC to Load Optimal Defaults but copy down all current settings first, to be safe.
And are you sure about that BIOS update file? When I look on the support page for the Inspiron 3505, BIOS v1.9.0 is listed as the latest update, so why are you only trying to update to v.1.7.0?

I tried with the bios v1.9.0 file too, but the same problem was also there. In fact, first I tried with the bios v1.9.0 file.

Are you sure using a USB stick formatted with gnome will be compatible with the BIOS flash update?
Most small USB sticks (eg 2 GB) are already formatted FAT32. So I don't think you need to format it with gnome.
Suggest you try downloading the .exe BIOS file using a Windows PC, and saving it directly onto a different USB stick that's already formatted FAT32 (but not by gnome), or you format it yourself using a Windows PC.
