Keyboard & Power Issues After Battery Replacement
Inspiron 7472
Hi there-I replaced a dead battery with a non-Dell supplied battery. Unfortunately, I have had issues since replacing the battery with the 3 & 5 keys requiring several attempts before working. Have taken apart the laptop several times to make sure I didnt screw anything up but other than reseating the keyboard cable I haven't done anything else. Oddly, I loaded up Ubuntu on a Live disk and didnt seem to have any of the keyboard issues. The normal OS in W11, latest release
I have also had bizarre power related issues. If shut down & unplugged, when I plug it back in it powers on. When powered on and it goes to sleep due to inactivity it will not start up again, with the screen staying dark, even though the keyboard lights are illuminated. I have to hold the power button down for about 10-15 seconds and then it reboots.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated as always.
Thank you
Roger

It isn't uncommon for third party batteries to be slightly different in size from OEM batteries -- and it doesn't take much of a difference to affect the keyboard and/or touchpad, since there is very little extra internal clearance inside the system. If the keyboard works normally with the battery removed, this is the case. You'll need to use an OEM replacement battery.
The power issues could be related to a low-quality battery as well.

The Dell Manufacturer replacement battery (part FW8KR) won't be available until 4/26/2024! This happened to me last time and it's how I ended up with a knock off. I'm trying to find it online but when I search for the part number, I get all different models? For example, will this work if the part shows up for Dell Inspiron 14 7460?
Sorry to be so think!

That battery is used in multiple models -- and there is more than one part number for it.
