Limit battery charge to 80%

Is there anyway to cap battery charge to 80% in my Dell inspiron 15 3000 series laptop?

  • Edit: I have found that, Dell Power Manager application to be the perfect solution for this. The custom charging option lets you select the percentage you want your device to be charged upto.

Limiting charge to about 80% helps preserve battery health by reducing time at a full charge. Many Dell laptops support this.

  • Windows app method: Open My Dell / Dell Power ManagerPower → Battery settingsCustom. Set Start ~60% and Stop ~80%, then Apply.

  • BIOS method: Restart and tap F2Power Management → Battery / Battery Health Manager. Choose Maximize my battery health (targets ~80%) or set Custom thresholds if available.

  • Back to 100%: Switch to Standard charging or set Stop to 100% in the same place.

If the issue persists, click the Get Help Now icon in the bottom‑right corner of this page and share your Service Tag and current firmware for 1:1 troubleshooting.

If your system has Power Management Options, then select the drop-down for Battery Health Manager and select Maximize my battery health. This setting maximizes the battery health by lowering the maximum battery charge level to 80%. Next, press the F10 key to save the changes and exit.

Dell Power Management is only compatible on paper with windows 10. On windows 11 the download is blocked in the microsoft store. BUT you can still install the windows 10 version and choose the run on AC or the personalized option for your battery.

Dell Power management can be downloaded here : https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=kdhhr
