Permanent Battery Defectiveness
Inspiron 15 3511
Hi! About 28 days ago now, I purchased this Inspiron 15 3511 laptop from Dell for college and it has been working perfectly. A few days ago, though, I was using my laptop, unplugged it, and the laptop shut off. I soon found out the battery suddenly has no charging capabilities, is permanently set at "23% battery health" and cannot be turn on without being connected to a power source. I have absolutely no idea how this battery suddenly became defective despite every other part of the laptop working perfectly and every single performance test I have run has given me no signs of battery issues, saying the compute's battery is functioning perfectly. As this is not the case, I was wondering if there was anything i could do to potentially fix this before spending $120 on a new battery for my brand-new laptop. Thank you.

If your system is under warranty, and at 28 days it should be, you can contact Dell tech support and they can provide assistance. If the battery will not charge it could be defective or you could have problems with the adapter, DC jack, or MB problems. In any case Dell tech support can help.

Battery life can be very variable. Depends on number of cycles, but more importantly how deeply they are discharged. Best to NOT use below about 30% charge. You can lose about 1% of battery life each time the battery is completely discharged.
I have purchased three non-Dell batteries for two laptops, now 8 and 9 years old. One lived about the same as the original battery. The last two have lasted much longer - prices were $20 an $25!! These two were from Amazon with three year warranties.
You should ALWAYS keep the laptop plugged into the charger. The batteries will last longer and will not be damaged, as the charger shuts down when the battery is fully charged. Use BattStat to monitor battery condition. Shows all battery parameters including maximum charge level in watts vs. original level.
