Ram speed

I currently have the Dell Inspiron 7567 laptop with an i7 7700hq and a GTX 1050ti with a single stick of 16gb ram.

I'm looking to upgrade the memory to dual-channel with a kit of Hyper X 2x8gb 2400mhz cl14 memory kit. I also found a kit which was about $20 cheaper and it was 2x8gb 2666mhz cl15 memory from Hyper X as well. Would my current laptop run 2666mhz memory without downclocking it to 2400mhz? On Intel's website they state they state the 7700hq only supports up to 2400mhz ram but online there are many forums and benchmark results of people running 2666mhz memory in their 7700hq laptops. Would the Dell Inspiron 7567 run 2666mhz ram or would I be better of spending the little more (Budget isn't really a problem, I don't mind going with wither but I prefer to go with the cl14 kit)?

Anything more that 2400 is pointless - the memory controller on the CPU you have is 2400 max, so faster RAM won't run any faster.

There are likely notebooks out there that allow overclocking (many high performance boutique-build Clevo notebooks do) - then it may make sense if the owner plans to overclock.  You cannot with the system you have.
