Realtek Audio Headphone Mic not detected

Hello, I have a Dell G3 15 3579 laptop that has Realtek (R) Audio drivers installed. My issue is, when plugging in a new headset into the combo jack, only the audio is routed to my headset. The laptop's internal mic is still used. I've opened up the sound settings, and it only shows 1 Playback device, the "Speakers/Headphones", and 1 Recording Device, the "Microphone". My Headset's mic is not shown here, and I cannot get it to show up no matter what I try.

I've tried reinstalling drivers from recent patches, i've tried reinstalling drivers from the oldest patches. I've tried resetting the drivers to "High Definition Audio" instead of "Realtek Audio" or "Realtek High Definition Audio". I've tried the MaxxAudioPro app that comes with my laptop, and it doesn't show the microphone, only the headphones. I've looked for the Realtek Audio Manager, but it does not exist on my laptop. Reinstalling does not make it reappear. I've looked in the system files for the RtkNGUI64 exe, but clicking on it does nothing. I don't have the Dell Audio manager, nor do I have any way to make it appear on my laptop. Troubleshooting has no effect.

The mic on my headset does work, I have tested it with other devices in my house. The audio still works and I still have my internal laptop mic, I just want to use my headset mic instead. Can anyone help? I can provide pictures if asked for. (They didn't let me upload images with this post)

connect the headset to the headset port on the computer and complete the following steps:

  1. Right-click on the Speaker icon on in the notification area (usually lower right hand corner of your screen)
  2. Select Recording devices
  3. Select the headset and select Set Default
  4. Click Apply
  5. Click OK

Let us know if this helps.

Hi, @AdrianG001  when I right click the speaker, only Open Sound Settings, Open Volume Mixer, Spatial Sound, and Troubleshoot Sound Problems appear.

Okay, I ended up finding a workaround to the solution. Since my laptop uses Maxx Audio Pro sound manager, I logged onto that and changed the setting from "Headphones On-Ear" to "Headset On-Ear", which switched the mic i was using. It is still undetected on the sound settings, but the mic is used. If I want to switch back, I just switch the audio setting from Headset back to Headphones.

Hi, I have finally managed to find a solution to this issue. Hope it works for you as well.

I have a Dell G5 15 5500 that is less than 2 years old and when I plugged in my Hyperx Cloud stinger it wouldn't recognize the Realtek Microphone but instead I have to use my Array Microphone which is basically the laptop's in-built mic. To fix it,

1. Open Realtek Audio Console application (You can download it here in case you don't have it- Realtek Audio Console Application | Driver Details | Dell India)

2. Click on the Device Advanced Settings option on the left-bottom.

3. Under Connector Retasking, under Analog, select Headset (with microphone) instead of Headset.

Regards
