Per the Windows site, a free upgrade is not available. So you would have to purchase Windows 10 and do a clean install. Also follow the link on Jesse's post to be sure that your system meets Windows 10 hardware requirements.

I'll likely run -- and while Windows 7 keys will still allow an upgrade to 10 for free, Windows Vista won't. That'll mean spending $100 to upgrade the OS on a system where the used value is about $50. That may make no economic sense to you -- only you can decide. I would not count on getting much performance out of the almost-10 year old hardware in this system.

This appears to be the best power button fix I've seen and I will be trying this:

I was able to the upgrade from WIN7 to WIN10.
Lately, I have upgraded to an SSD 500GB and max permitted RAM. Note, I did the WIN7 to WIN10 upgrade before I did the upgrades to SSD and RAM.
Running quite well and much better than before. But I have noticed that battery life is very, very short since running WIN10. I'll be getting a larger extended life battery for this laptop soon.
I think I need a new motherboard for my Studio 1555, and also again need to rebuild the cover, hinge and power button. That power button was a serious design flaw, as others have pointed out. I believe there are some web sites describing how to power up despite having the broken power switch - I hope I bookmarked them.
Anyone working with this Studio 1555 laptop, or any old computer in general, is well-advised to backup their data regularly. Having an SSD installed is another precaution along those lines, in my opinion.
