The battery cannot be identified

Inspiron 3521 (End of Life)

Inspiron 3521 (End of Life)

On start-up i get the message "The battery cannot be identified -----------" "Strike F1 to continue F2 to run setup.

Pressing F2 and it indicates under "Battery Health" that it is a non-Dell battery. It is Genuine and is a MR90Y.

I've disconnected the power lead and battery, held down the power button for 30 seconds and waited 2 minutes before starting.

I've updated the Bios

I've checked for updated battery drivers in Device Manager and they are the latest.

This problem suddenly appeared. The battery icon indicates 100% charge and charging, If I remove the battery the icon shows it is still plugged in with red X indicating no battery.

Interestingly the service tag indicates the laptop is a 3521 but Bios indicates 5521.

So, the charger seems OK indications are the battery is being charged but the system doesn't recognise it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the battery recently purchased, or is it original to the system?

And on the battery is a long alphanumeric string (the PPID).  It will start with CN, KR, JP, etc. and have the format:

CN-123ABC-XYZ45-***-1234

What are the three digits/letters where the asterisks are placed above?
