UEFI identifying m.2 ssd but not showing up in boot sequence

I bought my G15 5520 laptop 2 months ago and it was working fine. However, a few days ago I installed a windows update and had to restart my computer, but when it was restarting it started booting with HTTP(s) boot. I was confused and turned off my laptop and started it in BIOS mode and realized my M.2 SSD wasnt in the boot sequence along with Windows Boot Manager. I looked around the BIOS menu for a bit and confirmed that BIOS was recognising my SSD as storage but not as bootable device. I dont have a HDD and a secondary SSD. There was no damage prior to this, and Windows was installed on my SSD

Hey @Anarsonio a quick update that I received from the service center is that this seems to be an issue with the SSD and since I have warranty they are replacing the SSD! Hope this helps you!

The Windows Boot Manager is the normal boot device for a UEFI system.  A normal update should not have caused a change in that situation.

Legacy systems use the actual drive as the boot device.  If you can boot to some external media like a USB drive with the Windows install media, you can run the command below from the command prompt to see what it is showing.

Perhaps, running the startup diagnostics would help or give some information.

I checked the command prompt but it said

The boot configuration data store could not be opened.                                                                        The requested system device cannot be found.

I also checked startup repair but it couldnt repair my laptop.

I also went ahead checked if my laptop was identifying my ssd through cmd and it said it was online. And there is no option to reset pc in troublshoot.

I just ran "Scan Hardware" through SupportAssist OS Recovery and it says there is nothing wrong with my hardware. However, when i try to reset my pc it gives an error saying "There is an unexpected error" when on the operaring system recovery stage. Also, when i try to backup my files it only shows Z disk and not C disk eventhough my ssd appears right before the reset screen.

Hey @Anarsonio ,

Even I had the same issue last night. I just got a Dell G15 5520 some 25 days back. I had a Windows Update last night around 2 AM. I gave update and shutdown. Windows tried to restart and when Dell screen popped up my BIOS got updated and then I was unable to find the SSD in Boot Config and also when trying to install/repair windows using media creation tool via flash drive the SSD is not even displayed. I have given the laptop to the service center to check further!

Thanks. Also, did they say whether it was due to corruption or damage ?  Because i dont remember anything that couldve caused such things on my end.

Had the same thing happen on an Inspiron 14 7420.  Ran a windows update - then no bootable disk found.  SSD disappeared out of boot sequence, but yet is recognized in bios storage and passes all tests both quick and advanced of on-board diagnostics.  Purchased a new ssd - same problem.  HELP!
